“Hey Anshu you are going to the USA next month, the company is giving you an onsite job opportunity”. These lines are something which most of the people working in India wants to listen so often during their job.
Now we all know that most of the IT companies get projects from countries like the US, Germany, France, etc. During working on these projects sometimes it’s difficult to manage everything from India so they send people to client locations.

Our salary depends on the project, our role, client, our home company, and client country location. In onshore jobs we get a chance to earn some extra bucks and visit a new country on company expenses. It’s joyful to explore new places and people.

Society is full of people who earned so well while residing abroad and also those who could not. Now I will discuss some myths and facts which should be known to everyone before expecting much. One more thing I have worked in an IT firm so it is all based on my experience and people related to the IT sector.

Huge Appartment

Myth: You will be living in a huge apartment.
Fact: It is not necessary, especially in cities like Paris it takes around 1600 Euros rent per month(around 140000.00 INR) to get a one-room apartment with a separate kitchen. Sometimes you have to pay this rent from your salary so don’t expect much. We have huge houses in India which is not so common in other countries of the world.

Myth: You will be partying most of the time.
Fact: Once you land up in some other country for a job assignment most of the time the focus is on earning money. So people think about controlling their expenses, occasional outing is necessary and it depends on everyone’s personal choice.

Surrounded by friends

Myth: You will be surrounded by new friends.
Fact: It all depends on your nature and the country you are in. For example, when I landed up in Paris I was thinking that it will be fun to talk to different people about their culture. But after spending one day I come to know the fact that very few people speak English here. They prefer to speak French, in which I am like a novice. So yes it’s an opportunity to learn a new language but during initial days, for daily needs, you end up using a translator on the phone all the time.

Myth: You have to work less.
Fact: You have to work hard for your position, as on client location you are a representative for whom the client is paying. So you need to be alert all the time and set your performance standards up to the mark. Also if you are smart working and proactive you can get long term opportunities in the future.

Myth: Everyone earns huge money.
Fact: No, as I said earlier, it all depends on several standards. Sometimes you think that you are earning less in your country, but the fact is you have to spend less on your survival. For example, in some European countries, you have to spend a lot on maintaining a common living standard, similar to our Indian standard. So it all depends on you how and where you save your money, sometimes people compromise in schooling or house or vehicle, but it’s a bit hard to use luxuries in the same way we use in India.

Myth: Nobody knows you, so you need not to follow rules.
Fact: You have to be extra cautious about following rules. A small mistake can lead you to jail, it becomes horrible if you do not know the local language. So avoid messing up with someone in any situation.

There could be several pros and cons to everything. A few benefits you get in onshore jobs are-
1)Extra money (no doubt if you spend smartly. you will save some bucks in your FD)
2)More confidence
3)New relations either with your countryman living abroad or foreigners.

At last, I would suggest, don’t expect much, make yourself ready for challenges. Also do not compare yourself with others on the basis of onshore opportunities.

If you want to add anything to this list, don’t hesitate to write it up in the comment box. Share this post with your friends and colleagues who are eagerly waiting for onshore opportunities.
